Tapando para ver

Tapando para ver (2000 – Present)

In this series of works, sections of newspapers, billboards, bus stop ads, TV ads, and radio transmissions are selected and covered up, re-creating a new version—a new piece. Tapando para ver seeks to reveal a new encoded message by leaving only certain parts of advertisements and news headlines visible. By covering these ads, the project highlights what is truly significant and omits what is not, unveiling hidden messages within what was already there and creating constructivist-like black compositions.

While exhibited, the gallery installation includes a map of public interventions, a growing collection of intervened newspapers, documentation of public interventions, and even actual billboards.

Other pieces from this series are the de-collages, created by cutting parts of posters from billboard ads and stacking them together. This allows certain words and images to be seen and mixed, creating a new image made from more than 14 different cut posters layered one on top of another.
