365 days in the tropical forest

Tropical Paintings: 365 días en el bosque tropical (2006 – Present)

A series of white prepared canvases are left out in the tropical forest for a specific period of time, mostly at Latitude 18º 23’ 26.88” N, Longitude 66º 22.93” W, Bo. Maricao, Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, where the artist grew up.

The results are subject to the conditions of the place and time, as the humidity, flora, and fauna directly affect the canvases during the prolonged period they remain in the forest. When the pieces are collected, they are “cleaned,” removing any leaves, insects, roots, or other debris that have adhered to the canvas, revealing the traces of what occurred on the surface during that time.

In the studio, a white frame is painted on the canvas, and a short written text is added describing the process: the time the painting remained in the forest, the location where it was left, and any references to the things, people, or artists that served as inspiration for the piece.
